Yesterday proved just why the Cheltenham Festival is so popular, after we saw some top quality races, across the opening day of the week.
I was on PETIT MOUCHOIR in the first, who ran a good race, travelled great, but when it quickened up, he lacked the extra gear when it came to the hill and couldn't quite go on with the real two milers. This was a good experience for him and I think he'll be a good horse for next season.
In the Champion Hurdle, SEMPRE MEDICI never really got going, but it was all about ANNIE POWER in this race, who is an absolute freak! She's top class and she can do it over, two, two and a half or even three miles. If FAUGHEEN seconds her next year, there's no reason why she can't emulate DAWN RUN and go for glory in the Gold Cup.
I rode AURORE D'ESTRUVAL in the Mares Hurdle which was won by VROUM VROUM MAG, and in this one, I think the ground was a touch too quick for us.
Looking at today's action, in the first, I will be riding BELLO CONTI, who has a live outside chance. He's only won one Maiden Hurdle and hasn't run since, but he was very impressive in that race.
In the Coral Cup, I will be on ABRE DE VIE who ran a big race in last year's Albert Bartlett, where I think he was probably just a little too keen. In a Handicap, anything can happen and hopefully all goes well and we can run a good race here.
VERY MUCH SO has a great chance in the bumper. He's a lazy horse at home, and always does what you ask him. Cheltenham should suit him and I think he could run a big race here today.
